I love and agree with everything in this post. I’ve been trying to communicate this very message to my kids for years now, only I’ve been *much* less articulate about it. If they had to sum up what I’ve said to them on this subject so far, I think they would say something like “books are better for your brain than most of what’s on YouTube.”

The opening lines of the three points you’ve made are so perfectly clear, I think I’ll just memorize and repeat them until they move out. They’re 11 and 8, so this may be 20 years from now ;)

Thanks. This is a good piece. It also illustrates the problem with the endless promotion of 1st person narrative as the only things worth writing and reading online.
